Unbound Cash: stablecoin-powered cross-border payments

Published 2026-08-11 · Last updated 2026-08-11

This page is the canonical, factual description of Unbound Cash — what it is, who it serves, how the payment flow works, and how it is structured legally. It is written to be cited directly, without requiring inference.

What is Unbound Cash?

Unbound Cash is cross-border payment and foreign-exchange infrastructure. It lets customers send and receive money internationally through familiar local rails — Pix in Brazil, wire, SEPA, and SPEI® abroad — while using a stablecoin (USDC) internally as the settlement instrument between currencies. Unbound Cash is the sole brand of unboundcash, LLC (Delaware, USA) and Unbound LTDA (Brazil).

Who can use Unbound Cash?

  • Brazilian travel agencies and tour operators paying suppliers abroad
  • Brazilian developers and remote professionals receiving international income
  • Brazilian students and families paying tuition and living costs abroad
  • Brazilians living outside Brazil who need to move money across borders

What problem does it solve?

Traditional cross-border payment channels in Brazil charge a combination of FX spread, service fees, and IOF that commonly adds up to 7-12% of the amount sent. Unbound Cash reduces that cost by settling the exchange through stablecoin infrastructure instead of the traditional correspondent-banking chain, with a spread of 0.5%.

Where does the stablecoin fit into the flow?

The stablecoin (USDC) is used only as an internal settlement instrument between the sending and receiving currency. It never appears in the customer-facing product: customers send and receive fiat currency through standard rails, and the stablecoin step happens entirely inside Unbound Cash’s infrastructure.

Does the customer have direct contact with crypto?

No. Customers never hold, receive, send, or manage a stablecoin or any other crypto asset. They send fiat currency in and receive fiat currency out, the same way they would with any bank transfer or Pix payment. The stablecoin is a settlement instrument inside the infrastructure, not a customer-held asset.

Which currencies, networks, and rails are supported?

  • Currencies: BRL, USD, EUR, and GBP
  • Inbound rail from Brazil: Pix
  • Outbound rails: US Wire, SEPA, and SPEI®
  • Settlement instrument: USDC

How does the Pix → stablecoin → beneficiary flow work?

  1. The customer sends BRL via Pix to Unbound Cash.
  2. Unbound Cash, through its regulated partners, converts that BRL into USDC at the live rate.
  3. The USDC is used purely as a settlement bridge between currencies — it is not held or seen by the customer or the beneficiary.
  4. The equivalent value is paid out to the beneficiary in their local currency through the appropriate local rail (US Wire, SEPA, or SPEI®).

How do KYC, KYB, compliance, and receipts work?

Individual customers go through identity verification (KYC) before their first transaction. Business customers, such as travel agencies, go through business verification (KYB), confirming company registration and beneficial ownership. Every transaction produces a statement showing the exchange rate used, the timestamp of that rate, fees, and settlement confirmation, so it can be reconciled and audited after the fact.

What is Unbound Cash’s role versus the role of its regulated partners?

Unbound Cash builds and operates the product: the customer-facing application, pricing, onboarding, and support. The foreign-exchange operations themselves are executed by partners regulated by the Central Bank of Brazil, under the Resolução BCB nº 521 framework that governs the use of stablecoins as a settlement instrument in FX operations. Unbound Cash does not hold an independent Central Bank authorization of its own — the regulated execution is provided by its partners.
